Spokane Opera Gala Concert

Whether a longtime fan and supporter, or a newcomer to Spokane Opera, the 25th Anniversary Gala concert on Oct. 31 was a treat for the senses. The concert recapped some of Spokane Opera’s best moments, and provided a special preview of attractions to come.
Lit by piano music by resident accompanist Greg Presley and guest accompanist Rachelle Ventura, the first half of the show showcased powerful vocal talent. Le Nozze di Figaro, La Boheme, Madama Butterfly and more paid tribute to Spokane Opera and the wonderful people who have labored this past 25 years to make the moment possible.
Before the intermission, audiences were treated to a preview of Spokane Opera’s upcoming production of Pagliacci, playing March 5 and 6, 2010. Renowned soprano Heather Parker sang the aria “Ballatella”, and up-and-coming tenor Gregory Carroll performed “Vesti la Giubba”. The emotive, strong singing gave the audience just a taste of the pleasures to come in March (so be sure to reserve your tickets now at spokaneopera.org!)
The show’s second half serenaded the audience with a dramatic volley of famous beloved show tunes from Porgy and Bess, Man of La Mancha, West Side Story and more, with colorful dancing, pageantry, and fun. Guest conductor Randi Von Ellefson came to the stage, along with the whole night’s cast of performers, to close the show with “Make our Garden Grow” from Candide.
In all, it was an incredible night. “I can’t think of a better way to begin working on our next big milestone. We want to thank everyone who made this show possible through your continued support, and we want to thank our audience for coming out and enjoying the show. See you soon at Spokane Opera’s New Year’s Eve Gala and Wine Auction, Diamonds & Divas”, says Bill Graham, Exec. Director.
